The purpose of this study was to examine the incidences and patterns of injuries, requiring medical attention, in Asian youth soccer players. 24 international matches between teams at youth elite levels were obsereved. Independent injury observers and team doctors recorded the occurrence, location and type of injuries. The data collected were later cross-tabulated in an interview session usually held within 12 hours after match. The overall injury frequency rate(IFR) was 144.3/1,000 hours in injuries without absence from training and/or match, and 42.0 in injuries with absence from training and/or match. The most common sites of injuries were knees(18.1%) and lower legs(18.1%). Most injuries were diagnosed as contusions. In conclusion, the incidences of the injuries to Asian youth soccer players were higher than those to European players, but the patterns of the injuries showed no major differences.
